Nurses play a vital role in the provision of hospital care in British Columbia. Often they are the glue holding our medical system together; providing care by striking a balance between their own professional and ethical standards, and other competing factors such as doctor’s orders, limited resources, hospital policies and patient needs. When patients do not experience the best outcomes, nurses can often be involved in legal claims, as witnesses, or as defendants. This presentation explains the basics of the litigation process with a focus on nurses.
